This ethernet switch essentially adds more ports for connectivity, if you have one internet jack coming in from your isp then you need to get a router which will assign different ip addresses to each computer it is connected to. This ethernet switch could be connected to a router to upgrade it from say a 4 port router to a 7 port but you need a router first to hook up to your internet connection coming in from outside.
