I have one of these but I tried updating the map and it didn't work. If I buy a map now, it's $55!!! on tomtom.com. My sister wants to get a gps but I don't know if I can recommend this one. Are you actually supposed to get a free map update when you buy it?Answers

Free map updates are not included on this refurbished contract although my map was current as of 12/08. Tom tom's new program is quarterly updates for $10 a quarter or $40 for the year.

Mine came with a 6 month limited warranty from tom tom.

Apparently the latest map guarantee does not extend to all refurbished products. Unless you have a promotion card in your package (mine did not) you will not be able to update to the latest version. I called tom tom and they were very nice but said there was nothing they can do. They did recommend their map update service for $40 a year or $9.95 a quarter to keep your map current.
